Answer

1. Poetry is a literary work of a writer which contains a rhythm, lyrics, rhyme, and rhythm in each line

2. Narrative poetry, Lyrical poetry, Dramatic poetry

            Example :

            Narrative

-           Epic of Gilgamesh by Anonymous

“He who has seen everything, I will make known to the lands. I will teach about him who experienced all things, alike, And granted him the totality of knowledge of all. He saw the Secret, discovered the Hidden, he brought information of (the time) before the Flood.”

Lyrical

-           William Shakespeare.

Let's start with an English sonnet by none other than William Shakespeare. Here's his famous "Sonnet Number 18:"

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer's lease hath all too short a date.

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimmed,

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed.

 

            Dramatic

-           The Dream Called Life

Following is an excerpt from a dramatic poem titled "The Dream Called Life" by Pedro Calderon de la Barca. The scene is immediately set with one word - dream. After that,  weenter into a swirl of emotion as the writer tells us a story.

 

DREAM it was in which I found myself. And you that hail me now, then hailed me king,

In a brave palace that was all my own,

Within, and all without it, mine; until,

Drunk with excess of majesty and pride,

Me thought I towered so big and swelled so wide

That of myself I burst the glittering bubble

Which my ambition had about me blown

And all again was darkness. Such a dream

As this, in which I may be walking now,

Dispensing solemn justice to you shadows,

Who make believe to listen; but anon

Kings, princes, captains, warriors, plume and steel,

Ay, even with all your airy theater,

May flit into the air you seem to rend

 

3. Old poetry (mantra, pantun, syair, soleka) and New poetry (s poetry that no longer has an attachment to writing rules like old poetry. It can be said that new poetry has a free writing style, both on lines, syllables, and rhymes) namely ballads, hymns, ode, epigram, romance , alegi, satire, distikon, quatrains, sectets, sonnet octaves.

Old Poetry

-           Berakit-rakit ke hulu

-           Berenang-renang ke tepian

-           Bersakit- sakit dahulu

-           Bersenang-senang kemudian

New Poetry

contoh puisi baru epigram adalah Hak Oposisi karya W.S. Rendra.

-           Hak Oposisi

 

Aku bilang tidak,

aku bilang ya,

menurut nuraniku.

 

Kamu tidak bisa mengganti

nuraniku dengan peraturan.

 

Adalah tugasmu

untuk membuktikan

bahwa kebijaksanaanmu

pantas mendapat dukungan.

 

Tapi dukungan –

tidak bisa kamu paksakan.

 

Adalah tugasmu

untuk menyusun peraturan

yang sesuai dengan nurani kami.

 

Kamu wajib memasang telinga,

- selalu,

untuk mendengar nurani kami.

 

Sebab itu, kamu membutuhkan oposisi.

Oposisi adalah jendela bagi kamu.

Oposisi adalah jendela bagi kami.

Tanpa oposisi: sumpek.

Tanpa oposisi: kamu akan terasing dari kami.

Tanpa oposisi, akan kamu dapati gambaran palsu

tentang dirimu.
